James is an experienced piper having played from a young age. 

He was the Pipe Major of the Scots Guards Association pipe band in Manchester and during his 20 year tenure in that post he played at many, varied musical events. These included playing for Royalty at Balmoral Castle, the Albert Hall and Horse Guards parade. Representing the Scots Guards at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and Basel Tattoo on a number of occasions. Performing at televised concerts such as the Jools Holland Hootenanny and Rod Stewarts Christmas concert at Stirling Castle. A successful solo competitor for many years he is able to entertain confidently in any piping style, whether traditional or contemporary.
